vpn won't connect error 0xFFFFFFFF

All of a sudden, the vpn connection to the office has stopped working - am
connecting an xp machine to an sbs 2003 server. User dials up to isp ok -
when he tries to connect via the vpn the following error message is
displayed:

Network connections
cannot connect the phonebook entry
Error 0xFFFFFFFF: There was an unknown error

have looked around for an answer but this error appears to be non specific!

any solutions greatly appreciated
 
Are you using the CMAK? If not, what's the error code?

The remote access has been enabled at the sbs end using the server manager wizard and works for all users except this particular one....The error mesage appears in a windows box entitled network conections and all that it says is cannot connect the phonebook entry
Error 0xFFFFFFFF: There was an unknown error - not very helpful! have looked in the logs and there is nothing there.....Not sure if I should start reinstalling protocols...tcpip must be ok if user can log onto isp and surf the net....the only issue is vpn.
Are you using the CMAK? If not, what's the error code?
