A client just bought this new Sony Vaio notebook. Tiny little thing -
weighs less than 3 lbs.
BIG problem though - only comes with Vista. I find it takes about 15
minutes to fully reboot, the security confirmations are a friggin' nuisance,
and the networking setup is a nightmare.
He wants to use a VPN to connect to the RRAS at the office. The VPN setup
in Vista appears to be straightforward, so I gave it a whirl. Took the
laptop home to test it out, and got it working with my home wireless network
in mere seconds. Tried the VPN and it wouldn't work. It seemed to connect,
the familiar little "Registering your computer on the network..." message
flashes by, but it won't resolve network server names or even ping an IP
address.
I connected it to the same network at home, this time via the Ethernet
cable. Once again, mere seconds. Tried the VPN - worked like a charm.
Hmmmmm, let me see - it works with a wired but not a wireless connection.
Hey, maybe it's my wireless router!
Tried it on my wireless XP laptop - works fine.
Any ideas? It's a brand new Sony Vaio Centrino notebook. Oneo of those
tiny little guys, literally the size of a letter-size notebook. If it
wasn't for the fact that it's only available with Vista, I might want one!
If anyone has any ideas on how I can get this thing to work properly with
the wireless, I'd appreciate hearing from you!
