I know I cannot set-up a remote VPN with Wno XP Home, but
can I upgrade to Pro without paying the same price as
someone upgrading from 98? Is there an upgrade
alternative for this?

Thanks ahead - I bet I am dreaming,

Paul

Why not?

XP Home can't participate in Active Directory, so some niceties of enforcing
IPSec security aren't possible, but otherwise XP Home has similar VPN
capabilities to XP Pro.

There's some misinformation out there. If you do a Google search on "xp
home ipsec" you'll find a reference which says flatly IPSec is not supported
in XP Home. However, the correct information is in this reference:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...xp/home/using/productdoc/en/sag_IPSec_Ov9.asp

There are limitations to IPSec in XP Home, but you should consider whether
they break your intended use. PPTP VPN capability is the same as XP Pro.

VPN's are supported on XP Home in both directions - incoming or
outgoing...

Incoming VPN's are limited to a single session.
