XP can act as a server for the built-in PPTP VPN or OpenVPN... This is not
necessarily the same as needing to run Windows 2003/2000 Server which is a
whole different animal including more expense and complications. The big
difference is the built-in XP PPTP server will only accept one incoming VPN
connection at a time. If you need more then you need to use something like
OpenVPN or upgrade to Windows 2003/2000 Server or use a VPN hardware device
like a VPN end-point router.

What exactly are your needs and what are you trying to accomplish? That
information may help others help you....

I have QuickBooks multi user software installed on PC # 1 WinXP Home Ed and
another one PC # 2 with QuickBooks and WinXP Home Ed in my office in a
workgroup network, and is working fine. PC # 2 connects over the network and
has a mapped share drive from PC # 1 so we can share the same QuickBooks
company file.

Now I purchase a new PC # 3 WinXp Pro and installed it at my home with
QuickBooks. What I need is to connect to PC # 1 with a VPN so I can also map
the shared drive from PC # 1 over my cable modem and use the QuickBooks
company file from my home at the same time my other 2 employees are working
on PC # 1 and # 2 using QuickBooks at the same time without interrupting
there work.

I don't see why you can't use either the built-in PPTP VPN or OpenVPN...

Another option is Secure Shell (SSH) and use a product like WebDrive ($$$$)
that lets you map a drive on a remote PC through the SSH tunnel. If you go
this route I suggest using copSSH as your SSH server package...

I think WebDrive would work very well for your application...

In all cases use a *STRONG* password...

Good luck...

I used built-in PPTP VPN server and client and connected fine, but I can't
see the other computer or share drive or folder, what could be wrong?

Try this \\IPaddress\Share

Example:

\\192.168.1.12\Share
