VPN vs. Remote Desktop

Can anyone tell me why VPN would be better than Remote
Desktop? Would it be more secure?

Our current set up uses our router to do IP forwarding to
client computers on our network. We have changed the
default port that Remote Desktop uses. I don't believe we
have any security issues there - I could be wrong.

The security question I have is whether data in transit is
encrypted? Can it be intercepted?

To answer your second question - both VPN and Remote Desktop sessions
are encrypted (128 bit by default)... However this brings me back to
your first connection - VPN's and Remote Desktop are used for two
different scenarios. You would use a VPN to remotely access files and
printers (and the remote network), but you would not have access to
the desktop.. Remote Desktop allows you access to the Desktop, but it
limits what types of network accesses you have.

Security - they are about equal More is known about the encryption in
VPN since they are standard.
