VPN trying to use modem

I'm trying to set up a VPN connection (internet connection will be through ethernet card). After setting up the VPN connection, the connection tries to use the phone modem to connect to the network, even though the computer is talking to the internet through the ethernet card. Any ideas on why it would try to connect through the modem, and how I can force it to connect through the ethernet connection

This will happen in a double dial case. Can you please check under the
General tab of the properties page of the connectoid to check whether "Dial
another connection" check box is checked. If so uncheck it.
