I was recently trying to setup a vpn for a handful of
individuals at work to use while doing some work from
home.I can connect to the VPN and it authenticates and I
log on to the network however when I attempt to access the
workgroup from the remote location it tells me I do not
have permission. I have several questions. Does the remote
computer need to be logged on under a valid work domain
name and password ( am assuming no since the vpn
authenticates the user ) what could be causing this
trouble. I am not sure what is going on and I am very
unfamiliar with vpns so please be patient and thanks for
any help in advance

Sincerely,
Rudolph Halmo

Yes they will need to be authenticated to the domain to access it's
resources. Browsing will be dificult as most home machine will not be
members of your domain so browsing will not be an option. They will need to
directly access the resources they are after. IE using an UNC path or
mapping a drive to the server's share. What are you using for the vpn
access?

well the company I work for does pool management and
construction services and they would be using schedules
for the lifeguard as well as a program called hourtrack
to "watch for pool punch ins etc" as well as I am sure
they will be implementing a few other uses. I wanted to
just use terminal service or pcanywhere however my boss is
hell bent the the vpn is the way to go and if I can't do
it he wants to bring in an outside IT firm to layout the
vpn. I feel rather overwhelmed as I am computer savvy I am
not network engineer. But hey any help is appreciated.

We have a t-1 line coming into a netopia r5300 and then
have a smaller router setup with portforward to forward
the requests to the vpn server running w2k small business
and then the DC is running exchange DNS and dhcp is coming
from the router.sorry if I am not giving you the
information you need this is all a bit new to me
