I have a windows 2000 server running simply accounting. I
would like to access the database file through the
internet. How do I do this. We have CISCO router
installed and the person who installed is is no longer
with the company and we don;t have the password.

I suggest you hire someone to look at your firewall to see if it supports ipsec vpn
endpoint and to reset the password. The best solution is to use an ipsec vpn endpoint
and there are reasonably priced devices for as low as $100 if your network is not
very large such as the Netgear FVS318 [which supports eight ipsec tunnels] and you
would need a similar device at the client end or ipsec vnp client software. --- Steve

You really should look at your software a bit before you invest a lot of
time/energy/money in setting up a VPN connection. If the software uses a
ISAM database (similar to MS Access), accessing the database over any kind
of internet connection can be extremely slow and may not even work. Not
really familiar with the package, just guessing based upon the basic
information available from their web site.

You should be able to use the software via a remote session of some sort,
terminal server or remote desktop, VNC, etc, and a VPN connection would
certainly have a place there as well. Either way, you should be sure of
what you need to accomplish before you get too far into it.
