Hi all!
I am trying to setup a VPN Connection between two pcs using the internet
(both pcs are in my home) as a learning experience. A Server(server 2003)
and an XP pro box. I think I have the server set up and I finally figured
out the port forwarding on the router for VPN. I am using No-IP.com to
forward to the servers IP address. Everything seems to be working fine.
The system acts like it is connecting as it says it is verifying username
and password, then I get the error 721:the remote computer did not respond.

I am running everything through a Microsoft Router MN-500. I do have
firewall enabled(does not matter whether enabled or disabled). I know
something is working because when I turn off the port forwarding I get the
error 800? or if I change some settings in RRAS on the server I may get the
error 800. I am running broadband and my ISP is giving me a static IP. I
know the two systems will talk to each other when I connect using the
No-IP.com forwarding address as I have used PCAnywhere to make a remote
connection.

I have spent days going over internet websites and newsgroups trying to find
out what I am doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please
let me know what info you might need, as I don't know where to start.

Thanks
Mike

You also need to enable GRE or protocol 47 on your router. 721 usually
occurs because of this. I guess you are using PPTP.

If you are using L2TP/IPSEC, you would require to configure your router for
UDP 1701, UDP 500 and protocol 50, thats ESP.

This sounds like it could be my problem. I am using a Microsoft MN-500
wireless router. How do I enable protocol 47? All I have is persistant
port forwarding and application port forwarding. Does this router even
support this? I have tried searching the net and newsgroups for this info.

Thanks for the Help
Mike
