VPN Server not working through router

I have successfully setup VPNs in the past, but this one
is stumping me. The customer has DSL connected to the Dell
1184 Wireless Broadband Router, with 1 XP pro desktop, and
1 XP pro laptop. Networking and Internet work fine. He
wants to VPN into his desktop when traveling, so I
installed the VPN server (incoming) connection on the
workstation, and the vpn client connection on the laptop.
They work fine over the LAN, but when I use a seperate
dial-up account for the laptop, and try to connect to the
public IP of the router, I get no repsonse.

This is what I have in the router:
port protocol ip address
47 tcp/udp 192.168.2.2
1723 tcp/udp "
500 tcp/udp "
50-51 tcp/udp "

2.2 is the ip address of the workstation. Obviously, I
think the router is stopping this connection because it
works on the LAN using the local IP address. I have
successfully connected as a client on both machines to a
3rd VPN server, just for grins.

I have this same configuration at my house with a linksys
and Win2K pro... works fine. Is it the Dell 1184 Wireless
Router that is preventing this incoming connection? The
router, and Dell tech, both say that it supports VPN with
IPSec and PPTP, but it isn't working.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi Wes,

You have opened up TCP/UDP port 47, but instead of that you need to allow
IP Protocol 47 (GRE).
