VPN/Rem Dsktp Doesn't work to XP

The boss has an XP Pro PC at home and an XP Pro PC at
work. We use a VPN for remote access. He can remote
desktop without problem to our Windows 2000 servers.
However, when connecting to any XP Pro machine here, it
connects only giving him a blue background screen, with
the little panel in the top center indicating the IP
address, then it disconnects. I have tested other
external PCs into his and other PCs, connecting without a
problem. BTW, pinging into devices here, including his
PC, returns less than 100ms. Hopefully, someone out
there has had a similar situation and a solution, which
would be much appreciated.

1) Check to see if the Boss is using a router (ie. Linksys, Netgear, D-Link) at home. Most likely, a port may need to be opened
2) If the Boss's ISP at home is AOL or AOL/Broadband, this will more than likely present a problem accessing the VPN without having to compromise your network's security.

Side Notes
a) Why would the Boss use Remote Desktop from home to himself at the office? Does he leave files on his hard drive
b) Programs should be loaded on both his office and home pc. Therefore, is there no way to house the information (data / files) he is attempting to access on the Windows2000 server
b) Testing other external connections to the Boss's pc SHOULD work with no problem as you've experienced because the Boss must be logged in -- unless you know his password...
LOGGING IN to a remote desktop is very different than ACCESSING a remote desktop connection
c) The pinging response can be a myriad of issues from cabling to a misconfigured firewall. Let your ISP run a check first

Good luck.
