Hi,
I'd successfully configured a VPN connection between an XP
Pro box (the host) and my Win98SE system (the client). I
was able to connect to the host and map drives, etc.
Worked great.
I then added a D-Link 604 router to the Win98 system. TCP
port 1723 & and GRE (protocol 47) are open on the router.
But now I cannot map nay drives after establishing the
connections. The connection status icon shows initial
send/rec'd packets, and then no activity after initial
connection. When I try to map a drive, I get the typical
error that the computer name or share cannot be found. I
know it must be something in the router config, yet the
log does not show any packets being blocked/dropped. Any
ideas out there??

Thanks,
Derek

What type of behavior do you get when you try to connect via IP
address in lieu of the machines name?

The router may be blocking the broadcast packets used for name
resolution.
