Hi NG,

I have a problem with my VPN-connection. I use a VPN to fetch my
emails (IMAP). I have a new, clean install of XP Pro SP1. After I set
up the VPN it worked, but I couldn't connect to the internet while it
was running. So I found out I had to disable that standardgateway
Option. I did that and now I can connect to the internet, but my VPN
doesn't work anymore. No ping, no nothing.

I don't know what to do.

Help?

Nina

OK--about that gateway thing--this change needs to be made in properties of
TCP/IP on the VPN connection only--no change whatsoever to your other
network connections, right?

To be specific: Right click the VPN connection, choose properties.
networking tab
internet protocol (tcp/ip) highlight and click the properties button.
Click the advanced button.
Uncheck "Use default gateway on remote network."
OK 3 times to get out.

This should fix your issue with Internet connectivity while using the VPN,
but not break anything else.

There is a security risk to making this change. It is not impossible that
traffic you expect to be securely encrypted and flowing via the VPN
connection, might go, instead, unencrypted over the Internet connection. If
your security needs are paramount, unchecking this setting can be risky.
