i was able to connect)
when i go to \\10.0.0.1 i access all the resources just fine

Does your remote client have the domain the server belongs to in it domain
search list?

You'll need NetBIOS support for this. NetBIOS is normally blocked at routers
(which in effect a VPN is doing when a client is connecting in such as
this). WINS is normally the answer.

Verify that the client is getting the proper DNS and WINS entries in it's config for the VPN adapter. Next the client will need a
DNS suffix search list that includes the DNS name used on your network.
