Hi folks,

I have just set up remote access and VPN. I have thoug one
problem, I'm not sure what ports I need to open for in the
firewall so it will work.

I did se a request on port 1723, and opened for that (nat
inside), put the session allways hang in "verifying
username and password".

Thanks in davanced!

Hi Jonathan,

Along with TCP port 1723, PPTP requires IP protocol 47 (GRE). Make sure
your routers are passing this traffic.

Hi Marc,
thanks for your reply.

My scenario is:

Public ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx that's running
Smoothwall. Behind the Smoothwall firewall I have the VPN
server. I can succefully connect and authenticate while
I'm on the lan, but when I get outside, I can't.

The port's I have forwarded are:

TCP 1723 -> internal ip TCP port 1723
TCP 47 -> internal ip TCP port 47
UDP 47 -> internal ip UDP port 47

That should be enough for PPTP, but I can't establish a
connection.

I also did:
UDP 1701 -> internal ip UDP 1701 for L2TP, with no luck.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Jonathan,

You need to enable IP Protocol 47 (GRE) not TCP/UDP port 47. Some routers
may list IP PRotocol 47 as PPTP passthrough or VPN pasthrough or simply
GRE.
