Hello there,

While connected to our L2TP VPN over *broadband*,
everything works; I can ping internal resources. However,
if I connect over a *dialup* session, although I can
initially connect, I'm unable to ping internal resources.
Also, I get disconnected after exactly 3 minutes. No
errors in the client's/server's event logs (just normal
connect/disconnect events).

I've played around with all variations of "use default
gateway on remote network" - no luck.

What confuses me is why it would behave differently for a
dialup session versus broadband. You would think that the
L2TP server wouldn't care; it just sees TCP-IP traffic.

Anybody out there have a suggestion?

Thanks!

Nahpets

The fact that the connection terminates after exactly 3 minutes suggests
that the machine might fail a quarantine check when connected over a dialup
connection and might pass the check when connected over a broadband
connection. (A quarantine check is basically a script that runs inorder to
detect whether the client meets the security requirements of the
network-like checking whether anti-virus is installed, checking firewall
settings etc) This can either occur because of different policy settings for
broadband/dial-up connections or because of difference in the connectoid
settings. Since you have access to the server(as you have checked the logs),
can you please check out the policy settings on the server and find out if
this is indeed the problem?

Thanks
Giri
