My laptop, which runs XP SP2, can no longer make VPN connections over
the LAN or WAN. The "New Connection" wizard will only create *dial-
up* connections using the built-in modem, which has never been used in
the laptop's two-year life. The wizard never displays the "Do not
dial the initial connection" screen.
There's no connection sharing or other funky stuff going on, just
plain-vanilla VPN, which worked flawlessly for two years. The problem
started when I 'upgraded' my Intel 2200BG wireless drivers on the same
day as I ran Windows Update. I've rolled back the driver install and
the updates, but it didn't help.
There have been a few threads about this issue over the past couple of
years in the microsoft.public.windowsxp.work_remotely and
microsoft.public.windowsxp.network_web newsgroups. None of them has
ever resolved the problem.
