Can you make a VPN if one of the computers is connected
with a cable modem and the other one on DSL?

I tried, was not able. The computer using the cable
modem seems to be the problem as I was not able to even
create an incoming connection for the computer with the
cable modem.

Am I doing something wrong or it's not possible?

I don't see why not. I have a VPN (Linksys BEFVP41) router in one of my
offices which has a Cox cable modem, and in another office which uses DSL, I
have another Linksys BEFVP41 router. These are VPN routers. They work great.
Actually I have lots of offices and work-from-home computers all connected
with Linksys routers in a big VPN network.

Yes you can do this. What errors are you getting?

When I try to connect this is the error I get:

Error 800: Unable to establish the VPN connection. The
VPN server may be unreachable, or security parameters may
not be configured properly for this connection.

I tried again today to create an incoming connection on
the remote computer and for some reason I was able to,
but I'm still getting the same error above either way I
try to connect.

Thanks,
David
