Hi!

I have the following components:

I have a local network (private ip's) and an us robotics router with a cable
modem (static ip). My network users go over that router into the internet.
I also have a notebook (windows xp) and a pocker pc (windows 2003).
I go with my nokia handy and the notebook with gprs into the internet.

Now I have some VPN Questions:

1. I want to make a windows 2003 member server in my local lan to my VPN
Server .
Then I want make a connection over the internet with my notebook with
GPRS with the windows xp vpn client to that windows 2003 vpn server.

What must I configure in that case on my us robotics router (Modell
8022 - the following router description: automatic passthrough of encrypted
data through NAT, PPTP packets are allowed to pass through, router supports
IPSEC)

Come I with VPN over that router? What must I configure on that router
when I use the local windows 2003 server as vpn server and the windows xp
notebook vpn client?

2. Can I make my router to the vpn server and connect me with my windows xp
vpn client to the router. Then I do not need a local windows 2003 vpn server
or?

3. when I have a second computer on an other location with windows 2003
connected with a cable modem to the internet (without us robotics router)
how could I then make there a vpn network connection. Must I there install
also a windows 2003 vpn server?

4. when I have a second network also with same us robotics router and also a
local lan with a windows 2003 member server - can I then make a VPN only
with the routers?
need I then no local windows 2003 VPN Server or VPN Client software?

Thanks for answers!

not sure all questions but would like to try.

1. quoted from http://www.ChicagoTech.net
Which ports need to be opened for running VPN

A: PPTP VPN uses TCP Port 1723, IP Protocol 47 (GRE); L2TP: UDP Port 1701;
IPSec: Pass protocol 50 and 51. Note: 47 is a protocol number and not TCP
port. The protocol name is GRE. It'll make a big difference when configuring
your firewall or router.

2. By my understanding this router can't be vpn server and you must setup
vpn on 2k3.

3.yes, install vpn and enable ip routing.

4. possible if setup forwarding to correct path and have correct routine
table.
