Finally, I installed a VPN server on a windows 2000 server
pc at work.
From my place, using an ADSL connection, I'm able to
connect the network throught the server, but I'm not able
to browse the domains.
I'm still able to connect a specific host using the
private ip address, but I cannot use the "my network
place" icon to browse the private net to see groups and
domains.
Is this a normal behaviour?

I've had this problem, too. In the VPN connection
properties on the client, go to the Networking tab and
make sure that "Client for Microsoft networks" and "File
and Printer Sharing for Microsoft networks" are both
checked.

Hope this helps.

That is very typical. The best methods to resolve the problem are to
either rely on mapped drives or shortcuts, probably using ip address instead
on server name such as \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\sharename , use a wins server, or
hosts file that points to the domain master browser. See KB link for more
