I have a NetGear xDSL router with 1 public IP. Behind it, a win2k server with VPN installed on it. I want to connect this server by means of VPN to another Win2k3 server for replication of AD. However, i dont wanna make my other computers dependent of tha VPN server for internet access

All examples from MS regarding VPN, they show the server directly connected to a modem or the WAN / VPN interface NIC with a public IP. Is it possible to utilize a private IP on the WAN / VPN interface NIC and still make a VPN connection to other VPN server? And if yes, how would this be confgured

lastly, which ports does the VPN server make use of so that I can configure PAT in the router for triggering?

The VPN server can use the private IP fine, but you must
map the ports on the router (1723 and 47) to go directly
to the VPN Server. The other machines on your LAN should
not have to go through the VPN server, but should connect
to the router just like the server.

You might also like to configure ports 1701 and 500 for L2TP/IPSEC VPN
connections.
