VPN forces dialup instead of using LAN

Hi,

I hate these kind of 'me too' posts, but, yes, indeed, I have the exact same problem.

I first thought it was because I have two network connections (wired and wireless) and one of both is not running (cable unplugged for example).

That didn't help.

I then thought of disabling one. To no avail.


I'm still looking into this, as I really was able to define a VPN connection that went over my Internet Connection a week ago. But now, I can't get that working anymore.

So I'm thinking now that this can be caused by a recent update, or some software I recently installed.


I'll get back here when I find out what's causing this.

Sorry for the confusion, but this message was sent as a reply through
eggheadcafe, but the message comes in the group as a new message.


I'll describe the problem:

I try to add a new VPN connection in Vista (Ultimate). I do define
that it is NOT a dial up connection, but a VPN connection going over
my network connection. I can define the remote host, the username and
password, etc. But Vista forces the connection to become a dial up
connection.

When going to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections I
see that in the icon it is clearly marked as dial-up, it is placed in
the dial-up group, and when I view the properties of the connection,
on the General tab, it says, under Connect using: Modem removed. In
the Phone number text box, I can find the host address I entered
during setup.

In the Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections panel,
it says Unavailable - device missing.


And I did manage to get it working after my initial Vista install. Yet
after some days, after a reboot, Vista had switched the connection to
being a dial-up connection.
