When I connect to the internet via my DSL provider and
then connect to my company's intranet with Nortel's
Contivity VPN client software, I get periodically
disconneted from the VPN connection with the
message "routing table cannot be altered".

The DSL provider tells me that some process on my computer
is altering the routing tables and that is the cause of
the trouble. A "route print" confirms that the route table
actually is changing.

My question is - how can I determine what process on my
computer is making this change to the routing table?

Have you tried print out the routing table before and after the DSL to
compare? I think it is the issue of the DSL provider overwritten your
default gateway.

I don't know what you mean. Before I connect to the DSL,
I have no routing table, except for an entry for 127.0.0.1.
After I connect to the DSL, a routing table is built and
the default gateway is correct - the IP address of my
router.
