Hello,
I do have a few questions for you to help me better understand your
enviroment.
Is this error showing up on the event log of the client? or is this a
dialog box that shows up?
Do you see a correlating event in the event log of the server?
What service pack level is the RRAS server?
What service pack level is the client?
From the client, can you open a command prompt and telnet to the ip address
of the RRAS server on port 1723?
If you can telnet to port TCP 1723, can you verify that there is no
firewall blocking protocol GRE 47?
If all the above checks out, try the following on the RRAS and client. This
will check for ghosted (hidden) NIC card entries within the registry.
Often caused by the addition and removal of many NICs and/or the
installation and uninstallation of many different versions of NIC drivers.
1. Click Start, click Run, type "cmd.exe" (without the quotation
marks), and then press ENTER.
2. Type "set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1" (without the quotation
marks), and then press ENTER.
3. Type "Start DEVMGMT.MSC" (without the quotation marks), and then
press ENTER.
4. Click View, and then click Show Hidden Devices.
5. Expand the Network Adapters tree.
6. Right-click the dimmed network adapter, and then click Uninstall.
Some of the greyed objects may not be able to be removed, WAN miniport and
such. This is expected.
Notice if the WAN miniport has two entries, with one entry having an
excalmation point. If so, try removing it and rebooting. Then test the VPN
session.
