VPN Drive Mapping

Hi,

Can anybody help me? I am trying to set up a service so that outside users
can access my company network.

I have two servers running W2K Server:

Server1 is running DHCP and DNS. It is the DC. The domain is
"bcomp.comp.com". It has a userid defined for "wremote".

Server2 is running Routing and Remote Access. It is defined in the RAS and
IAS Servers group on the DC. It has two NICs (one internal, one external
connected to an ADSL modem). The external user folders are on this server.

I have set up a testbed workstation. It is a standalone machine running W2K
Pro. It's workgroup is called "WORKGROUP". The userid is "wremote".

When I connect to "bcomp.comp.com" using VPN, the workstation is
authenticated and connects without a problem. I can see "wremote" in the
Remote Access Clients list in RAS on Server2.

My problem is that I cannot get the workstation to show any mapped drives on
"bcomp.comp.com". I have tried running a logon script that includes "NET
USE Y: \\server1\users\%username%". I have tried setting wremote's home
folder to connect Y: to \\server1\users\%username%. But neither methods
work.

Is the problem caused by the domain/workgroup conflict? If so, then the
original idea is a non-starter, since we do not want external users to join
our domain.

Thanks in advance,

Lawrence.

Ummmm, have you tried simply mapping the drive on the workstation? You
should be able to map a drive directly to the network share you have set up
on the sever. Since you seem to be logging in to a workgroup on the
workstation, you would want to map the drive share using the built in
"connect using a different user name" function for authentication purposes.
Hope that helps.

Cathy,

Thanks for the advice, but no go...

The workstation cannot see the domain, even though it can ping the servers.
When I try to map the share, the workstation gives a message that the
network path could not be found.

Surely, it shouldn't be necessary to use a different user name, since the
workstation user name exists on both server1 and server2 (as per KB301194)
anyway. Besides the user name was used to logon to the network domain using
the VPN connection.

I have a similar problem. I can log into the VPN and can see only the
VPN server machine. I can not see any other computers on the network
I can pintg other computer and get a response but I can't access to
any of the machines either through the IP Address or the computer
name. Any suggestions?
