I am running Windows XP Pro and I have created a VPN
connection to my office network. When I connect to the
VPN I not able to suff the internet. The connection times
out and the page can't be displayed. When I disconnect
the VPN I can surf the net just fine.

I have also tried this on a Windows 2000 Pro machine and
have the same issue.

Any ideas???

Thanks

The default Client TCP/IP setting might interfere with your ability to
access the Internet while having a VPN connection. To correct this:
1.Go to the properties for your VPN connection
2.Click on the Networking tab
3.Double click on TCP/IP
4.Click on the Advanced button
5.Uncheck "Use default gateway on remote computer"

May be that the VPN is dedicated to specific IP addresses
both ways. You got a one on one with the VPN at the
office / home . Like a telephone call but no
conferencing. as you would think going out to the net.
If you figure a way I would like to know- Try opening
another version of IE and seeing if it can find a path.
I doubt it though- VPN are made to be secure so you can
check in but can't check out so to speak till you leave
permanently. And that is good too.

Stephen I can't thank you enought. Your solution worked!!

I had a feeling it had to do with the default gateway but
I would have never found the settings without your help.
Again I can't thank you enough.
