VPN Default Gateway

Hi,
When dialing up to our corporate VPN, the client PC's
authenticate correctly and pick up an IP address from the
DHCP server as normal but the default gateway is left
blank and so the PC cannot ping anything else on the LAN.

This only happens with PC's that belong to the domain that
I'm dialing in to and if i log in as a standard user. If
i log in as an domain administrator the default gateway is
set correctly (it becomes the same as the IP address) and
I can ping other hosts on the LAN.

Similarly, if i use a PC that is configured to a different
domain or to a workgroup, regardless of user rights, the
IP Address and default gateway are set correctly.

Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated.

On the RAS connectoid check to see if "Use default gateway" check box is
selected

1.. In the Network and Dial-up Connections window, right click the
connectoid for the VPN or RAS connection and click Properties.
2.. In the Properties dialog box, click the Networking tab.
3.. In the Networking tab, double click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
entry.
4.. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box, click the
Advanced button.
5.. In the Advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog box (seen below) the General
tab contains the Use default gateway on remote network checkbox. The default
is to have this checked. If you want to use the default gateway assigned by
the ISP instead, remove the checkmark from the checkbox.

what is the client OS you are using and what is the OS of VPN server it's
trying to connect to.

Hi Pawan,

Thanks for coming back to me. Using W2kPro clients and
W2k Server. I have found that only users with local
administrator rights can receive a default gateway.

Is there any Group Policy setting that would enforce this,
that i could change to allow all users access?

Thanks, Callum
