i have a windows 2k member server setup as a vpn box on my
network. it has two nic's with one connected to the modem
to get my dsl connection to the internet. a dial up to
the internal telephone modem works just fine. clients can
dial the modem and connect that way. the problem is with
the vpn side of things. the client can connect just fine,
just can't access any of the network resources, i.e. any
shares, the routing and remote access screens identify the
connected client and it stays connected until i
disconnect.

i am getting the dchp addresses from the domain controller
on my network and all seems to be well with the world.

i am at a loss as to where to start. i have found a
couple of documents that sort of helped but didn't solve
the problem. even a couple with exactly the issue in the
title and then nothing in the document that remotely
applies.

any ideas would be appreciated.

thanx dickg

Are you able to reach the server by its name? Could be a name resolution
issue.

Try this one - it took a while to figure it out but it works. We have a workgroup that connects to a main office domain. Map a drive to the remote share while connected and when it asks you for the username and password enter the usename as "Domain Name\Username" without the quotes and enter the required password. Also, try to make the workgroup or domain your connecting from (the branch office) the same as the domain your connecting to (the main site.)

sharoon,

i can ping either with server names or ip's. if i search
for a computer i can find the server and access it, but
only with the administrator login and password to the
server. dns appears to be working, i thought i was
authenticated on the domain but apparantly i am not. is
this the case??

thanx
