I've seen and experienced this behavior on an IPSEC NAT-T VPN, but
haven't seen it on a PPTP connection yet....

Is your username and password that you used for VPN valid for the
nework drive shares?

I have a traveling Windows XP laptop connecting into the
network via pptp VPN with Windows XP vpn capablities.

I am able to establish a connection to the network ok. I
am able to authenticate enough to be able to use Outlook
connected to Exchange 2000 ok.

But, I cannot get to any of my mapped network drives.

It gives me an error saying i dont have permission.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Basically it s a 2 part verification. I know that a
straight pptp VPN is not the best route to take, but until
I can get a better method in place ....

Basically, I have it set up as a two part process. The
user logs into their machine using their network username
and password, and then after they log in, the VPN verifies
against the firewall for verification.

Upon authentication to the firewall, it should kick off
the internal network verification. And I guess it does to
some degree because users can get to and use Outlook with
the internal Exchange Server.

But, when they try to access a mapped drive, it, gives
them an error saying that they dont have permission.

It won't do it by default... Outlook and Exchange authenticates in a
different manner.... Try going to Windows Explorer, select Map
Network Drive, then provide the drive letter, share name, and select
the box to provide a username and password... Supply a valid UN/PW
for the remote network here... You then should be able to connect to
the network resource...

It MAY keep this username and password cached for future sessions (it
doesn't seem to work with XP Home machines over a VPN connection, in
my experience).

Thank you again for your response. For the temporary fix
I uploaded the files needed to the web for FTP download.
That solved the crisis. But, obviously that is not a
solution, just a band-aid.

I will give it a shot related to what you suggested.

Thanks.
