I setup Routing and Remote Access server on Win 2003 server. I opened pptp
and gre on the firewall. I connect fine when I connect from a pc on the LAN
but when I try to connect from off-site it hangs on verifying username and
password and never connects. My VPN logs recognize the outside IP so I know I
am getting through the firewall. Any ideas? It used to work...

assuming you received error 721 or 800, you need to double check the TCP port 1723. also how do you open the GRE? remember GRE is IP protocol 47. If it is VPN pass-through firewall, it is enabled by default (in most cases).

error 721 and error 800 VPN Process · Network Issues · VPN Error Codes · System Error Codes ... I keep getting errors:721, or 800 when attempting to connect with XP Professional ...

I double checked the GRE and PPTP ports. They are open. I have a PIX 515e and
it does have VPN built in but I don't think it is setup... 721 is the error.
