I am using w indows 2000 server sp4 in anactive directory domain.
The server is a DC with Routing and remote access installed.

I can dial in, authenticate and connect to the server with no
problems. However when i try to connect via tcp/ip the vpn hangs on
the authentication, its looks like its going to connect but doesnt.

This is a small network with a Linksys router. PPTP is enabled along
with the relevant ports so I know its not that. The server has only 1
nic.

Does anyone have any ideas as to where i should start looking first?

Thanks.

Don't know if this helps or not, but I had a very similar
problem using the Cisco VPN client across any connection.
What I ended up trying was setting the MTU of the Network
adapter in the client PC to 1400.

cheers, Jef

what's the error code?

I'm having the same problem. Everything was working before
installing SP4. Now I can dial in but attempting to go
through the Linksys router and the cable modem results in
the verifying user/password getting error 721: remote not
responding. I can still pptp with Linux so I believe the
problem was caused by SP4.
