I am trying to connect home xp machine to office xp pro machine. both are
behind Linksys router. I have successfully set up remote desktop and it is
working. vpn is set up and stays connected but I can't seem to access any
files. vpn server's ip address is usually 192.168.1.120 and I have tried
\\servername\filename and \\ip address\file name. Ports 1723 are open on
both routers. any ideas
Jason

The format is \\servername\sharename (or
\\servername\sharename\filename to get direct access). If you don't
have shares setup but you have Administrative priveleges, you may be
able to use the Administrative share C$, D$, etc.

that (\\servername\sharename) is what I meant to type. I cannot access
files on the server even though I have shares setup. I just tried to ping
the server's ip address which is 192.168.1.120 but got timed out error.
shouldn't I be able to ping the server? I was able to access files via vpn
but I changed many settings to try to get the remote desktop to work. now
remote desktop works but can't get the vpn to work. the reason I want to
use vpn is since it's faster and sometimes someone else is logged onto the
machine in the office and remote desktop won't allow 2 users.
