I have a windows 2K (SP4) server that is an internet gateway server. Two
clients vpn into it, and use a retail ticket software that runs in Internet
Explorer. Last week I changed the DNS server on the LAN where the Ticket
software runs, and now the VPN clients cannot find the Ticketing application
unless I use the IP address of the intranet webserver. How do I determine
wher ethe VPN clients are supposed to look for DNS? Thanks.

assuming you use RRAS enable broadcast name resolution, make sure you select correct interface. Or if you made some changes, you may need to restart the RRAS. this how to enable broadcast name resolution may help, http://www.howtonetworking.com/VPN/vpnnameresolution1.htm

The VPN clients should get the DNS entry which is configured on the VPN
server as part of the PPTP negotiation at connection time. But you can
always configure it manually in the client's connection properties if you
want to.
