Hi,

I have a remote W2K workstation that needs to access our
LAN. I have a Windows 2000 Server located on-site and have
setup 2 identical Linksys VPN routers - one at our site
(LAN Side) and one at the remote site. I have been able
to establish the tunnel and from the remote workstation
can see our domain in network places. I have also set up
an LMHOSTS file on the remore workstation with the
following entry.

192.168.2.1 PDC #PRE #DOM:TOWN-HALL

However, when I go to add the remote workstation to the
domain I get as far as being prompted for the username and
password for an admin equivalent account on our LAN and it
appeared that it was going out to add the workstation to
the domain but then returned with the following error:

"The specified network name is no longer available"

Then when I try to add the workstation again it comes up
with this error

"The specified domain either does not exist or could not
be contacted"

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance

Add the domain as an entry in your lmhosts file...with the 0x1b switch. Be
very careful about the padding spaces to make sure you've done it
right....see KB 180094 for help with it.
If you run

nbtstat -R to reload the cache, and then and then

nbtstat -c

you ought to see the domain with the 1b entry...if not, you may need to
examine the lmhosts file.

Thanks ... is the domain name case - sensitive?
