Tried the "Use default gateway on remote network", but that didn't do it by
itself. I used 192.168.0.x (x = 1 - 5) and 255.255.255.0 addresses locally
on the PCs and router. The XP home computer that I VPN to used
192.168.0.150 and 151 as its server and client addresses. When I changed
the local network to 192.168.1.x addresses, it worked - kind of like you #2
suggestion (at least that's what inspired my thoughts here) so Thanks!!
I'm VPN'd and Internet'd.
WIN XP PRO-
I set up a VPN connection to a remote computer, which is successful. When
it is being used, the Internet Explorer, Outlook, Outlook Express, etc.
attempts to use it to access the Internet. So, I can use the VPN or I can
use the Internet, but not both at the same time. Any suggestions.
I also have this computer set up to accept VPN connections and this works
also.
Go into the outgoing VPN connection's Properties | Networking |
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) | Properties | Advanced. Un-check "Use
default gateway on remote network".
Two notes of caution:
1. If you VPN into a corporate network, tell the IT staff what you
want to do and ask them whether "split tunneling" (connecting
simultaneously to the VPN and the Internet on the same computer) is
allowed. Some companies forbid it because of the security risk to the
corporate network: your Internet access would be outside the corporate
firewall.
2. If the network that you VPN into has more than one subnet, you'll
need to define routes to other subnets after disabling the default
gateway on the VPN connection.
