I just setup a VPN connection between two locations for a
client. These connect fine (both are XP) but you cannot
browse Network Connections without getting the message:

"{workgroup} is not accessable. You might not have
permission to use this network resource."

It goes on to say, "The list of servers for this workgroup
is not currently available." Both as set to MSHOME
workgroup.

I get this message from either end. I turned off anit-
virus programs on both ends with no resolution. It has to
be at the MS level. I will check to see if ICF is turned
on, but meanwhile, does anyone have a clue as to why I can
connect but cannot reach hsaring a workgroup over VPN?

I am trying to solve the same issue.
XP-Pro on all machines. No problem establishing VPN connection. I am able to ping all machines on the remote lan. I can access network scanners & printers on the remote lan. BUT, no access to shares.

The really strange part is that I can establish a remote desktop connection to the same machines that I cannot access shares on.

Have you made any progress?

John

Sounds like you need to enable NetBIOS on this connection. Networking Tab,
select TCP/IP, Properties, Advanced, WINS tab.
