I am running a VPN server via my ISA 2000 W2K SP-4 remote access server. My
client gets an IP, WINS, DNS info from DHCP server - which the ISA 2000
server is acting as, as well. When I make my connection successfully, I try
to connect to my Exchange server via Outlook 2003 but it cannot find the
server. I then try to ping the server_name and no matter what server_name I
try to ping (we have 7 servers), the ping fails. I noticed the information
recv'd from the ping attempt and it says servername.COMPANY.NET
[64.15.175.5]
My client PC is officially part of the domain, but is off site when testing
this, using a broadband connection for my VPN. I log into Windows XP Pro
SP-2 like I would if I was at work (ie: using the domain name, not the local
PC name), then I make my VPN connection. My local PC IP address is
192.168.7.x (obtained from a broadband router acting as a DHCP server) and
my connected IP address from the office DHCP server is 192.168.1.x
Again, no matter what host name I try to ping, server or client, get the
same wrong address. Then I try to open up a network share, using netbios
name and it connects fine. (ie: \\servername\sharename)
I also did an IPCONFIG /ALL and noticed my info for the VPN connection as:
ip address - 192.168.1.35; subnet mask - 255.255.255.255; DHCP - NO;
gateway - 192.168.1.35; DNS - 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2; WINS -
192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.5
Not sure why I get the 64.15.175.5 address when trying to ping, but that is
why I cannot see my Exchange server - it is not the correct address. If I
use the server IP address, I can ping it fine. I do not see the 64.15.175.5
address in any of my DHCP registered addresses, nor in my WINS/DNS
registered addresses.
Any ideas?
TIA,
