Hi,

I have Win 2k Pro, Win 2k System Tools and Exch 2k System Mgr all loaded on
my computer and when connected directly to the network all work perfectly
well.

My problem is this - when I connect to the network via a VPN - I have access
to my email and my folders but I cannot browse the network and the Sytem
Tools and Exch 2k System Mgr do not work.

If I try and run AD for users and computers I get the message:
Naming information cannot be located because:
The server is not operational
Contact your system admin to verify that your domain is properly configured
and is currently online

If I try and run System Mgr for Exch I get the message:
The server is not operational
Facility: Win32
ID no: 8007203a
Exchange System Manager

What could I be doing wrong?

After you make the VPN connection, run Remote Desktop over the
connection. This will give you the Pro desktop on your remote client, and
the process(es) will run on the LAN machine.

Thanks for that but I am not using XP so I don't believe this facility is
available in Win 2K - or is it?
I can run a terminal services session to the server no problem but I thought
the whole idea of a VPN was that
'it's as if you are sitting at your desk connected to the network'

What am I doing wrong? or what do I need to setup

Thanks for all the info but if you could bear with me a bit longer please .
.. . . .

If I set WINS up on my network stupid question maybe but where do I put the
entry for WINS on my laptop? in the TCP/IP properties of the LAN connection
or the Internet connection I use to dial up the VPN?

I just had to rebuild my ISA server and was having name
resolution problems until I added DHCP relay agent to the
internal interface in RRAS. I am not running WINS on my
network or using lmhosts files.
