Hi all! PPT 2002 XP, Windows ME

Following normal mode, I checked my work e-mails from home tonight before
going into work tomorrow, just to get a feel for what I may need to prepare
for. I found an e-mail from a VP in San Jose Transit, to whom I had been
asked to e-mail a set of our system schematics (PPT) earlier last Friday,
stating that they could not be opened, and he was looking for an answer,
like.... ASAP.

Upon reading this, the first things that popped into my head were;
!) they do no have PPT
2) they do not have PPT viewer
3) somehow, the extension may have been changed for some reason 'twix and
'tween. (???)

However, since I am new to PPT 2002 XP, before I go in tomorrow and start
troubleshooting these areas, I thought maybe I ought to check back here
first to see if there could be some other reasons that these slides could
not be opened.

I'd really appreciate any suggestions I might try or consider in addition to
the obvious with the above.

Best regards,
Jan :)

Jan,
Did you send the file as a PPT file? If so, the email system could easily
have corrupted it. (Happens more times than I care to admit.) You might try
re-sending the file as a zipped (compressed) file. The size won't change,
but the process of compressing it will add an extra layer of protection
around the file. Make sure you tell the VP to un-zip it on his end before he
tries to open it.

Yes, I did send it 'Barefootin' <g> I got the call from our Prez to send it
ASAP about 10 minutes before I was supposed to go home, and I just attached
and sent. I didn't think about that. Normally, I always zip everything that
has graphics of any kind, but, this time I forgot. That may be what
happened.

I have the file here at home and I resent it with instructions to unzip.
Now, all I can hope is that they have zip capability......ah... me oh
my....guess I'll find out tomorrow.... ;-)

Thank you for the info Kathy, I really appreciate it.

Hi Kathy!

Just to let you know what the ultimate problem was. I got
an irate call from said VP this morning, and after he
finished chewing my ear about not sending the files so
that he could open them, I asked two questions. Seems he
does not have either PPT or the viewer. I had to hand
lead him to the viewer, explain how it would lit his see
the shematics even without PPT. They are now a happy
camper...and our Prez is happy that they are happy....

Sheesh....Management....

Thanks for your help, I do appreciate it. At least after
seeing posts about the viewer often enough round here, I
could get them that far anyway. ;-))

Jan :)

Don't let it get you down Jan. Some people aren't happy unless there making
others unhappy. Then there are those of us that are just happy we can type
and form somewhat coherent word patterns! Management, you can't live with
them and you can't get paid without them. :-(

Yeah...you're right. But..I can usually manage our
management pretty well. It is the other managements that
I find difficult to manage. I can't conger up visions of
horrors past, or threaten, dance on their desks, leave
stink bugs in their coat pockets in the Executive closet.
It leaves no way to release stress, irritation, or mole
crickets in their hybrid Begoina garden.

I find myself mumbling mindlessly in an unknown language
after having to deal with outside management people like
this one. Good thing I don't work for them..... ;-)
