I have seen an add for Vox Proxy. This is a 3D talking animated Characters to narrate your PowerPoint Presentations
Does anyone have any feedback on this Add-In product
d.

It does exactly what it says on their website. It's very clever

VOX Proxy - Add talking animated cartoon characters to powerpoint
http://www.voxproxy.com/index.swf

Just note that it does not work with the powerpoint viewer....but works great with a full version of powerpoint

Vox Proxy is an excellent add-in. It will even allow you to have your
digital talking characters deliver your presentations for you -- using your
words, and gesturing as you direct it to. And it will allow you to have your
characters trigger PowerPoints' own slide animations, one by one, if you'd
like. You can download a trial version at the website TAJ directed you to.
Like an old TV commercial (for an unrelated product) once said: "Try it.
You'll like it!"

I am trying it out at the moment. There seems to be some problems
and I am getting no response to my e-mails to Vox Proxy support.
Proceed with caution, I'd say.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

Perhaps you would not require an add-in if PowerPoint had some additional
functionality? What "problem" or scenario are you not able to address from
directly within PowerPoint that VBA or a 3rd party add-in alternative?

If you (or anyone else reading this) have suggestions for additional slide
show functionality in PowerPoint (without having to rely on VBA or
add-ins), don't forget to send your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to
Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).

In my case, I need to build a self-running interactive
slide show using MSAgent narrators. My understanding
is that the PowerPoint player will not execute the MSAgent
scripts (macros). Vox Proxy will generate a script that
will run from a CD with their proprietary player.

The Vox Proxy player is "proprietary," as you say. But it's also free -- not
just to Vox Proxy owners, but to anyone Vox Proxy users want to send it to.
And, most important, you can use Vox Proxy to create an MSAgent-narrated
PowerPoint presentation that can be played using the free PowerPoint viewer
and the free Vox Proxy player.

Too bad their support seems to be non-existent.
I'm wondering if anyone's out there at all.

I've met Tom and got the impression that it's a one-man shop. He's very
customer-oriented; not at all the kind of guy to leave you hanging with a tech
support problem.

It could be that he's ill (I hope not!)

Mike:
Hi, this is Tom Atkins from Vox Proxy. I have sent several replies to
your private messages but apparently you're not getting them. I'll
address a couple of points here...please follow up with any additional
questions you may have.

Vox Proxy is delivered as an add-in for PowerPoint. It does permit you
to create "script macros" that will run outside of PowerPoint, but the
authoring program (the Script Writer) requires PowerPoint.

Vox Proxy does not support spaces or other non-alpha characters within
the names of ACS files. So just rename your ACS file without spaces
and it should work just fine.

FYI, the next release of VP (within a few weeks) WILL support the
PowerPoint 2003 Viewer!! Almost all Vox Proxy features are supported,
including synchronization of characters with custom slide animations
(builds), hyperlinks to slides or other presentations, etc.; the
ability to run Flash movies, audio, video, volume fading for audio,
timers that allow perfect timing of narration with videos, interaction
with Excel spread sheets, plus some new features like clock display
with alarms, simple input forms, automatic scaling of Agent characters
to the screen resolution of the user, and more.

Our new "CDPrep" feature will take the results of PowerPoint's new
"Package for CD" feature, combine it with your Vox Proxy scripts,
media files, etc. and prepare the final auto-run CD that will run
VP-scripted slide shows on the 2003 Viewer.

Hope that gets some of your questions...I'll keep an eye out for
others, though I don't normally monitor this newsgroup.

Steve,

Tom and I have finally managed to hook up. I'm not
sure what the problem was, but things are okay
now. Thanks.
