I'm running Windows XP. Everytime I startup my laptop,
the volume, power, and other icons that I want to "Always
Show" do not come up. The only way I can get them to
come up is to go to the Task Manager, do an End Task to
end Explorer.exe and then do a New Task and type in
Explorer. Then I click on OK and my screen comes back
and the icons are there. However, when I restart, log
off, or shut down the computer, I'm right back where I
started with no icons.

I'm not sure if it's a registry problem or what... Seems
like Windows is not saving my settins or something, but
when I go and check "Always Show" is still next to these
tasks, even when they're not showing. Makes no sense to
me.

Please HELP!!!

I am having the same problem but I can fix it by going
into the control panel, sound and checking volume to the
taskbar. after startup the check is no longer there. It
started after a microsoft update but I don't know which
one it was
