Somehow I have lost my volume icon on the desktop. MS says to put the XP disk in and open a particular file. I don't have that disk, just the 6 disks that came with my notebook. Where do I find the file to get my volume icon back

Hi there Marshtra,

Go to Start/Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices. On the Volume Tab under
Device Volume, put a check in the box that reads: Place volume icon in the
taskbar.

If that has been tried:

Place your XP CD in then go to Start/Run and type in:
EXPAND -R X:\I386\powrprof.dl_ C:\Windows\System32

Once done: Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 stobject.dll

If you don't have proper Windows CD (many vendor give you 'System Restor'
disks - bad idea) you may find the files you need in C:\I386 or
C:\Windows\Options\Cabs

I found C:\I386 but I don't know what to open it with. The suggestion is to use Interactive Runtime Engine, but this doesn't seem to help. Now what should I do
