The volume icon no longer appears in my tray; the settings show that the display icon is selected. This occurs randomly, sometimes reappearing after a system reboot. Any advice would be greatly appreciate

I found this happening to me because of the auto log on.
Don't know why it started after several months of trouble
free computering, but once I started to log on with a
password etc, the volume control remained where it should.
