The program loading at startup was systray. It's was listed as an exe file.
Now I can't find it anywhere.
I inserted the Windows XP disk, holding down the shift key so it wouldn't
automatically start. Went to run, typed cmd. At each prompt I typed the
following hitting enter after each.
e:
cd i386
expand sndvol32.ex_ c:\windows\system32\sndvol32.exe
Typed exit to quit the command prompt.
But it didn't fix the problem. I think this systray entry was there from
previous windows version but you would think I would be able to fix it
anyway. I'm stumped.
Hello Shek,
| Hello Jan.
| Thank you very much for replying. This is the best group by a long shot. I
| tried everything. Even tried to extract the file from my Windows CD.
- Which file did you try to extract from your Windows CD?
| (short
| history) I originally upgraded to Windows XP home from windows 98. Been
| working great for at least a year and a half. I always noticed a program
in
| msconfig loading at startup all that time.
- What was the program in msconfig, that was loading at startup all that
time.
| I don't like programs loading at startup if not necessary.
| Well a couple of days ago I unchecked it an
| unfortunately deleted it completely.
- Exactly how did you delete it completely?
| Every thing still works great except the speaker icon in the notification
area.
| I can show it manually but everytime I reboot it's not there.
| Very frustrating. Thanks for your help and Kelly's site is the greatest.
Many people would agree with that!
| I have fixed many problems using her advice and tweaks.
Well, here is another one...

|
| Navigate to [ Notification Area ], and try the options there.

| | Hello All
| | The volume icon disappears on the taskbar when I reboot.
I can go to control panel, sounds and audio devices and check "place volume
icon in taskbar" and it's there, but if I reboot it's
gone.
How can I get the volume icon to stay in the task bar?
Thanks in advance for any Help.
