volume control gone

my volume conrtol program is not allowing icon in task bar. I don't have xp cd to recover. only e- machines restore disc.
please help?

Start Menu -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Sounds, Speech and Audio
Devices -> Sounds and Audio Devices

One of the checkbox items presented on the first panel 'Volume' should be
'Place volume icon in the taskbar'

ok. let me be just a little clearer.I cannot put icon in taskbar because it says ;volume control program not installed. I have tried to search for sndvol32.ex. and have found it and even tried to copy it over in to my sys32 folder to no avail. then I tried to copy files to cd-r and re add to programs that way. also to no avail . I have searched annoyances.com ;and the solution might have been there. however do to a lack of information;I was unable to complete neccasary string. Ijust don't know quite enough about sys32 and registry to mess around a lot. afraid it might go BOOM! HURRY THEIR ARE WOMEN AND CHILDREN HERE????????????
