volume control GONE

i have no idea what happened. while deleting un-needed
software, i noticed some kind of audio "add-on" i have
never seen before. as always, it said "change/remove", so
i clicked remove. this opened up the installation for the
software and i could do nothing to prevent it. once it
installed, it erased my volume. i can't play any audio
whatsoever. even after searching for volume as a system
search query, some files did come up, but windows could
not recognize any of the files. CAN ANYONE OFFER ANY
HELP???
