volume bar did not go away?

I clicked on volume icon in the notification area. Got the volume bar.
This bar did not go away even after repeated clicks on the desktop until
I rebooted the pc. What should I ought to have done to do away with
this situation before rebooting. However this is not the problem now
----till today this was one instance.
RAM 512MB.
 
There are about a dozen tiny glitches with the task bar like that. The most
common simple fixes are:

- Expanding then hiding the hidden icons in the task bar
- re-doing the action that caused the glitch (in this case, try and get the
volume bar to appear again)
- unlocking the task bar and locking it again
- unlocking the task bar, hiding it, unhide it and lock it again.

If that doesn't work, then the next simplist would be logging off or
rebooting.

For general reference, these solutions also work if you are seeing glitchy
spots in the taskbar, more specifically when there are hidden icons.

Thanks for the guidance.
I shall try next time in such a situation to unlock/lock task bar etc....
I am a fool and do not know why this thing did not strike me ... like
wise in the past while my pc would boot sometimes the volume icon in the
notification area was missing. I would then go to control penal/sound
and audio devices/and then do unable /disable (place volume icon in the
taskbar) and by this I would get the volume icon in the sys tray back.
Anyway thanks again. I will definitely do this next time when I have a
similar problem.
