Hi, I have downloaded some new SAPI4 voice files but still cannot see them
in the control panel, speech selections.

Is there a trick to doing this that I am not aware of?

Thanks

The file you downloaded is an *.exe file which means it is an executable file.
After download, double click it and it will/should install and give the choice
of which voice to use. Double click it again, for it may not have installed.
Take a look at the below website for info and installation procedures.
Text-to-Speech Voice Download Guide

Thanks,

But I tried double clicking and have done that twice. I couldn't find the
download guide that you mentioned. The voice files execute OK but I cannot
look at them in the control panel, speech selection.

Is this the correct place to load them?

Doug, I can't tell for sure from the bytecool website but it looks like you
need to use their CoolSpeech program to use/install the voices they have
for downloading.

Other suggestions for you:

Control Panel> Speech: Click on Text To Speech tab. You can select
different voices here. I'm seeing Sam, Michael and Michelle on my list.
Unfortunately, I don't remember if Michael and Michelle came with XP or if
they were added by Office 2003 but they do work with Windows Narrator (XP's
text to speech engine).

Also, here's a link to a Knowledge Base article that tells how to use Text
to Speech in XP. It includes some information about adding voices:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306902

And, if you install the Microsoft Reader (it requires activation but it's
free) it looks like it either includes extra voices or you can then
download more voices for it:
http://www.microsoft.com/reader/developers/downloads/tts.asp

Not sure if those voices would then be available for the MS Reader only or
if, like Office, it would share its voices with the operating system.
