i need to speak into my mike and have it go out via speakers. If that is I
want to use the PC as a voice amplification tool . Can this be done ? If
so , how ?

Yes, make sure the mike in Volume Control is all the way up and it
is not Muted. The tiny speakers that come with your computer will
not do much as a PA system. Your PC can amplify only up to a certain
point and that may not be enough.

there must be some other setting involved in this . when I speak into the
microphone it does not sound out of the speakers . I do have the volume
all the way up on both the microphone and the speakers .

Is the mike plugged into the correct jack and not the headphone jack?
Make sure it is not Muted in Volume Control and if it has an on/off
switch, is it turned ON. Also if and when you do get the mike to work,
make sure it is not near your speakers, for you'll get a tremendous
feedback (high pitch squealing), which can bust your eardrums.
We do not have access to your system, so you must troubleshoot on your own.

interestingly , the system works correctly when I run the hardware test from
the control panel . That is I speak to the microphone and the speakers
repeat the words . But that is the only time I seem to be able to make this
work , and I would prefer an application that could be invoked . I use a USB
microphone , and that works as above .
