Voice recognition - what's the best microphone?

I've been trying an old one that came with IBM ViaVoice about ten years
ago - but it's a bit iffy.

Get yourself a nice boom mic setup. Boom mics are the best for voive
recognition.

Unless you want to spend a lot of money on professional gear, the best
desktop mic you can get is the Logitech USB mic. The sound with VoIP
programs like Skype or when using a webcam is excellent - much better than
any mic that connects to the sound card. I would think that the sound would
therefore be great with voice recognition too.

"Best" is debatable

But look for powered mics and stay away from ones you need to plug into
the MIC Input. Use the LINE IN input.

Or find a USB Mic (they are usually powered).

Also correctly placing the MIC is very important.

I don't know about best, but you should use a headset boom mike, not a
tabletop mike.
To be consistent, the mic has to be at a consistent distance from your
mouth.

I've got quite an expensive Plantronics headset, and the sound quality on
the Logitech USB mic is much better. In fact, it sounds like it approaches
studio quality in sound recordings I have done. The range is very good, and
placement doesn't make much difference at all, while it also does not pick
up background noise. I am very impressed with mine.

There are loads of opinions on this mic on the web if you are not convinced.

I agree with you. That's good produce. I found here 'Buy the best
quality Plantronics Bluetooth Headsets with noise canceling.'

:)

I was actually saying how the Logitech USB desktop microphone that I have
has better sound quality than my Plantronics headset (which is also very
good).

The Logitech USB desktop microphone comes very highly recommended by me, to
anybody that needs a desktop mic. It's above Logitech's usual standard
being a high-end product, but it's relatively cheap too.
